SIMMONS & SIMMONS' ENERGY TEAM APPOINTS NEW PARTNER
Simmons & Simmons has recruited Susan Beck (nee Henderson), a leading oil and gas specialist, as a new partner to join the firm's expanding Energy Group. Susan, who is a qualified barrister and solicitor, joins Simmons & Simmons from Herbert Smith on 01 November 1999. Simmons & Simmons only recently announced that it had appointed four new partners to its London and international offices.
Susan's arrival will add further strength and depth to the Simmons & Simmons Energy Group which continues to grow rapidly. The firm now has more than 30 lawyers, including 11 partners, advising on the full range of upstream and downstream energy law matters in the firm's 10 offices worldwide. The firm's London based energy team has also been strengthened by the recent return to the London office of partner Steven Bryan from Hong Kong. Steven has been working in the Hong Kong office of Simmons & Simmons since 1993 and has been a partner since 1996. Steven has extensive experience in independent power projects in a number of countries and also in relation to international equity offerings and mergers and acquisitions in the power utility sector.
Susan has worked in the energy industry for ten years. Before joining Herbert Smith, Susan worked as Senior Legal Adviser for ARCO British Limited (a subsidiary of the major US energy company Atlantic Richfield) where she worked on UK North Sea matters. She then worked for the international division of Atlantic Richfield in Dallas, Texas as Senior International Legal Adviser where she gained major international project exposure in the Far East, FSU and elsewhere. Susan has extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, in particular in relation to joint ventures, pipeline projects, acquisitions and disposals, and disputes.
Jerry Walter, Head of the Energy Group, said:
"Our energy practice has expanded considerably in recent years, and Susan's expertise and experience will be invaluable. She is a first rate lawyer, and her existing reputation in the industry will help us build our existing oil and gas practice. We welcome her into the partnership."
Susan Beck commented:
"I am very pleased to be joining Simmons & Simmons' Energy Group where I will build on my energy experience and participate in the expansion of the firm's energy practice. I look forward to working with the other energy specialists in the firm in providing high quality legal support across the energy industry."
