Named Stonewall Top Global Employer

03 Jul 2017

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has been ranked as one of the twelve best performing employers in Stonewall’s Top Global Employer 2017. This is the second year running that the firm has received this accreditation.

Stonewall is a charity that works to achieve equality and justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. This year, 12 organisations have been recognised as Stonewall Top Global Employers. Simmons & Simmons is also a member of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme and a Star Performer in the UK Workplace Equality Index.

The firm continues to lead within the legal sector and earlier this year maintained its Stonewall Star Performer ranking, the highest accolade offered in Stonewall’s UK Workplace Equality Index.

The highlights for 2017 include:

  • Increased visibility of the firm’s international Straight Allies network and on-going collaboration with client organisations across the offices.
  • Continued partnership with Out Leadership and Hong Kong Gay and Lesbian Attorneys (HKGALA) Network.
  • Embedding a CR supplier programme across the Asia offices, specifically embedding LGBT equality and awareness across procurement and supply chain processes.
Mahrie Webb, financial services partner and LGBT Network Member, said:

“We seek to integrate diversity into our business activities and processes and to foster an inclusive environment where all colleagues can fulfil their potential. Although LGBT rights are not recognised or protected in many jurisdictions in which we operate, we continue to address this to ensure that all of our LGBT colleagues have access to equal opportunity.”

Sarah Foster, head of global workplace programmes at Stonewall, commented: “Congratulations to all at Simmons & Simmons for achieving Stonewall Top Global Employer status in 2017. In doing so, the organisation has demonstrated a commitment to ensuring LGBT employees can bring their whole selves to work, wherever in the world they are based. Alongside the support provided to LGBT staff, Simmons & Simmons has been innovative in the ways the firm has engaged allies – their non-LGBT colleagues – in their inclusion work globally. The firm continues to have a positive impact not just on its staff, but on its suppliers and clients around the world.”
