Philippe Cavalieros joins arbitration team in Paris

International law firm Simmons & Simmons expands in Paris with the appointment of new partner* Philippe Cavalieros on 02 October 2017.

Philippe joins the firm from Winston & Strawn LLP and has significant experience in all aspects of international arbitration, particularly within the services, oil & gas and transportation sectors.

The firm’s international arbitration practice has extensive experience in disputes involving emerging markets in Africa, the Middle East, China and the Far East. The team also has strong industry expertise in TMT, financial institutions, life sciences, asset management & investment funds and energy and infrastructure.

Last year the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris saw a record 966 new cases involving 3,099 parties from 137 countries. It currently handles 1,592 cases, with a 15% rise in parties from Latin America, parties from South and East Asia up by 22%, and record figures for jurisdictions such as Korea, Brazil, Nigeria and Turkey. As a very active market, Paris remains the most frequently chosen seat in ICC arbitrations. Philippe’s arrival adds bench strength to Simmons & Simmons’ international arbitration team and further enhances its offering to clients.

Philippe brings with him one associate, Janet (Hyun Jeong) Kim, a US national and New York attorney, fluent in English, Korean, and French. This is the fourth partner hire for Simmons & Simmons’ dispute resolution team in the last 18 months. Recent hires include Emily Monastiriotis (construction & engineering specialist in London),  Payam Beheshti (financial services specialist in Dubai), and Dr Stuart Dutson (head of international arbitration and aviation and financial sector disputes specialist in London).
