Victory at Singapore International Commercial Court

Case successfully argued before the SICC
JWS Asia Law, instructed by Simmons & Simmons JWS (as international counsel), was successful in a case argued before the Singapore International Commercial Court (the SICC) for Tozzi SRL, an Italian client, against a defendant from Malaysia and another from the Marshall Islands.
The Italian and Singapore offices worked closely together in a collegiate way when the dispute arose to determine the appropriate jurisdiction. Once the client decided to proceed in Singapore, the team was led by Amanda Lees (as international counsel) and Mohammed Reza (lead counsel before the SICC). Shaun Lee worked tirelessly on the case and was assisted at various times by Justin Kwek, Robert Grant and Colleen Cheong.
The SICC was launched in January 2015 as part of Singapore’s continuing push to be a prime destination for international commercial dispute resolution. It is an innovative commercial court designed for international commercial cases, offering litigations a more flexible procedure than standard Singapore proceedings and the option of having their disputes adjudicated by experienced commercial judges from Singapore and international judges from common law and civil law traditions.
Our case was heard by Singapore Court of Appeal Judge Steven Chong and International Judges Carolyn Berger, who previously served as a Justice on the Delaware Supreme Court, and Sir Bernard Eder, previously Judge of the High Court of England and Wales.
Ours is the 15th Judgment handed down by the SICC and the win highlights our Singapore dispute resolution team’s ability to handle complex, cross border disputes.
