Matthew Hebburn joins the firm
06 Apr 2018
Simmons & Simmons has today announced the hire of market leading derivatives partner, Matthew Hebburn, who joins the firm’s derivatives team in London.
Matthew has nearly 20 years’ experience at Allen & Overy, 10 of which as partner, where he played a significant role in the development of their derivatives practice, especially in Asia. His clients are predominately financial institutions, acting for most of the major investment banks, as well as APAC regional banks.
Matthew advises on a broad array of transactional, regulatory and advisory matters in connection with derivatives and derivative products as well as derivatives disputes.
Over the years Matthew has taken a leading role in the development of the credit derivatives markets in particular, including helping to develop the industry standard auction methodology for the settlement of credit derivatives, advising the derivatives industry body (ISDA) on market standard templates for credit derivatives and being involved in the regional implementation of the most recent iteration of the market standard credit derivatives terms on behalf of ISDA.
Matthew’s hire enhances the firm’s overall global derivatives offering, and although Matthew will focus predominantly on sell-side clients, he will work closely with the firm’s highly successful buy-side derivatives practice, led by Allan Yip.
Commenting on the hire, head of capital markets, Paul Browne said: “Matthew has an extremely strong reputation and technical ability and his arrival adds to the bench strength in our OTC derivatives expertise on the sell side. I look forward to working with him as we continue to grow our derivatives and structured products offering.”
International head of financial markets, Jonathan Hammond continues: “Matthew’s knowledge and expertise will further complement the strength of our UK/Europe offering and reinforces the growth of the firm’s global derivatives offering. I welcome Matthew to the firm and wish him every success at Simmons & Simmons.”
Matthew also commented: “Simmons boasts a very strong sell-side client base and derivatives team. This, along with the firm’s market leading regulatory practice makes it an exciting time to join the firm and I look forward to contributing to the growth of the derivatives team.”
