Simmons & Simmons and DLA Piper co-author a new book on Hedge Funds
04 Jun 2018
Dale Gabbert, a partner at international law firm Simmons & Simmons, and Andrew Wylie, a partner and Head of Investment Funds at DLA Piper, have co-authored the second edition of a book entitled ‘The Law of Hedge Funds: A Global Perspective’. Since the regulatory landscape has radically changed since the publication of the first edition and hedge funds have become a more ‘mainstream’ asset class, this second edition has been published with a view to modernising and widening the scope of the first edition.
The book, which was published in May 2018 by LexisNexis, is one of the most up to date, and perhaps one of the most comprehensive books about the global hedge fund industry. Crucially, this edition features new chapters about the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive, prime brokerage and UCITSs.
‘The Law of Hedge Funds’ is the product of collaboration between two lawyers who are passionate about the investment funds industry and hedge funds in particular. It has been created with the aim of being a helpful reference for practitioners and general counsel, as well as people outside the industry who wish to understand what hedge funds are and the key issues surrounding them.
Speaking about the launch of the book, Dale Gabbert, partner at Simmons & Simmons said: “Since hedge funds are a major force in global markets and form part of many pension fund portfolios, understanding how they work is key to understanding modern financial markets. ‘The Law of Hedge Funds’ is intended to be a readable, user-friendly book that solves real-world problems without losing sight of the technical details.”
Commenting on the collaboration and the book itself, Andrew Wylie, partner at DLA Piper said: “There are very few books published about hedge funds and we are proud to have created this fine volume about the global hedge fund industry. We consider that ‘The Law of Hedge Funds’ illuminates this complex and multi-faceted area of law.”
Along with Dale Gabbert and Andrew Wylie, a number of lawyers contributed to the book from both Simmons & Simmons and DLA Piper.
Contributors from Simmons & Simmons include Rolfe Hayden, Gaven Cheong, Allan Yip, Catherine O’Connell, Matthew Jones, Neil Simmonds, Melody Yang, Ian Rogers, Harold Glander, Heiko Stoll, Minke Hoekstra and Martin Shah.
Contributors from DLA Piper include Marcel Bartnik, Tony Katz, Martin Jamieson, Agostino Papa, Andrea Di Dio, Nicoletta Alfano and Ricardo Plasencia.
