Colin Passmore – HERoes Champions of Women in Business, supported by Yahoo Finance

12 Sep 2019

Colin Passmore, Senior Partner at Simmons & Simmons has ranked in the 2019 HERoes 40 Advocate Executives list supported by Yahoo Finance for the third consecutive year.

The HERoes list has been designed to drive gender equality in business and celebrate male and female leaders who are committed to driving the female talent pipeline. The 40 Advocate Executives category recognises senior leaders who are advocates for women in business and dedicated to creating more diverse and inclusive business environment for women.

During his tenure as Senior Partner, Colin has ensured that improving gender diversity is a key business priority, leading the firm to greater action to progress more women through to partnership and into senior management positions.

Since Colin’s appointment to Senior Partner in 2011, the representation of women in the UK partnership has increased from 12% to 22%. And in the last two years, women have made up 40% of the firm’s internal partner promotions. Colin is actively involved in spearheading the firm’s gender balance programmes including:

  • chairing quarterly gender balance meetings with the firm’s UK gender balance partner lead, steering committee and co-chairs of The Number One Club (the firm’s women’s network)
  • sponsoring two female Managing Associates on their route to partnership
  • collaborating with clients to speak on gender diversity panel events

Founder and CEO of INvolve, Suki Sandhu OBE, says: “These lists have been created with one aim – to create gender parity in workplaces across the globe. The role models we’re recognising aren’t just those who have achieved success themselves – they’re those who are committed to lifting others with them as they climb, and ultimately fuelling the female talent pipeline.”

Colin Passmore, Senior Partner, Simmons & Simmons, said: “I am really pleased to be recognised in this way for the third consecutive year. Gender diversity is a key priority for us at Simmons. While there is still more to do, I am confident that the action that we have taken to date to achieve greater gender parity across our organisation is leading to long-lasting progress.”

Jingyuan Shi, Partner, Simmons & Simmons, said: “I am so pleased and proud to see Colin to be recognised as a top executive for championing women in business for the third consecutive year. Colin and the whole firm have been making tremendous efforts to achieve better gender balance over the years with a great success. I am myself one of the many females who have been unbelievably encouraged and supported at Simmons & Simmons. This effort includes all our colleagues, not just legal professionals, and occurs at all levels. Gender balance is a core value of our firm – it requires long-term commitment and ambition from the bottom of our hearts. We are looking up to Colin and joining him in changing things for the better in this respect.”
