General Experience

Olivier specialises in commercial law and commercial litigation/arbitration, with a particular emphasis on distribution law, regulatory legislation in the medical sector, real estate and intellectual property rights. Olivier is the national head of the dispute resolution practice in Belgium. He is also a member of the firm's crime, fraud & investigations group.

Olivier has, in particular, gained significant experience of advising companies in the life sciences sector.

  • representing various companies in court cases related to the termination of commercial distribution agreements
  • reviewing draft agreements for an English pharmaceutical company in order to subcontract its distribution and regulatory activities in Belgium
  • advising pharmaceutical and medical device companies on the regulatory aspects of the Belgian legislation, including legal audits of their regulatory activities
  • representing a company manufacturing clothes in court proceedings related to the breach of design rights.
Background

Olivier is a law graduate from the University of Louvain (1995) and obtained a postgraduate qualification in economic law from the University of Ghent (1996). He has achieved a legal methods certificate from the University of Cambridge (1996).

Olivier has been a member of the Brussels bar since 1996. He has been an associate of Simmons & Simmons since 2003. During the summer of 2005, Olivier was seconded to the arbitration department of the London office.

He is also a part time lecturer at the University of Louvain and a member of CEPANI /CEPINA (Belgian centre for arbitration and mediation).

Since 2004, Olivier has been listed as an expert by the Council of Bars and Law Societies in Europe (CCBE) for matters related to civil procedure.

Olivier has published several articles dedicated to civil procedure, IP proceedings and distribution law.

He speaks French, Dutch and English.
